Following up his tender, soul-searching, journeyman 12" on Lobster sub-label Mörk last year. The northern hemisphere's drum fanatical enigma Roza Roza returns with another round of heavily swung, choppy drum jams, all shrouded in a smooth aura of glistening hi ends, smooth carpeted pads and rankling, chiming basses.
'-' was by far one of the most off-kilter EPs we've released so far, and Sadok Sudei picks up where the frenetic drum skits left off, reaching further afield for inspiration and providing a refreshing angle on core elements and ideas distilled from Detroit techno, arp-led ambient and UK dub and bass influences.
'----' is a cascading semi-conductor stream of particles that glow and meld into one another. A half-solid data flow that envelops the detector in a smattering of modular light and minute points of reception. Visually, sensually and algorithmically pulsating - causing raw interceptions, peaks and distortions on the surface of the human soul.
Picking up the drum baton is '-----' on the A2. Rickety hats, shimmering and cavernous rides, spooky pads and tender far-away synths. It's a stare into the abyss and that finds hope and bliss, a forgiving hand, and understanding look, things humans forgot how to extend in the steady future enraptured by machines and resistor-based distractions.
Kicking off the flip, and easy label pick of the bunch, is '---------'. A wandering, delay-drenched foray into the fine line between ambient, dub and off-beat techno, pealing back to reveal a shrill and heart-strumming vocal loop. Slowly repeating over hammering staggered kick patterns, clattering bells and chipper dub stabs.
Lolloping into view for the final stretch, '----------' is a kicking-back, hammock-level relax-o-workout. That deep, thumped-to-death cupboard-reverb kick is back alongside some familiar minor 7 chords that ease and squeeze around the little drum taps and knacks and skits. All one-fly hits and live inflections that pepper the arrangement until everything starts to discordantly pull apart at the seams. Come the finish there's barely a melodically simple element left in the room. All melodies being sucked into a central singularity, morphing, crushed together and fragmenting into ever more complex micro-structures. The end of harmony, the body and the self. A destructive and poignant end to all existence simulated through the medium of house music.
